It collects feeds from varieties of news site and it display there latest news .Google news is so far the best place where I get news online, it saves me the stress of going from Cnn to Bcc and other news site all in the quest to get news Online.
The website is updated every second and so the news are always updated.

If you are a blogger or you are personate on a particular keyword or field and you want Google to alert (Google.com/alerts) each time it indexes a site or blog related to the keyword you want to get alert for.
I have used Google alerts many times and each times a new update is made on the keyword I enter, it send me a message into my email address showing the new result and the link to it.
You can choose how often you want it to alert you on new update for a keyword, be it Daily, Monthly, or weekly.
